Programs
Community Development Program
The Community Development Program, and associated Trialing Pathways to Real Jobs, are a Federal Government initiative to create employment and training opportunities for Indigenous Australian’s living in remote communities.
We deliver CDP in two ways:
1. Employment and Training
Our Team Leaders and Service Coordinators are coaches. They coach our clients to set their goals and support them towards achieving them.
We partner with local employers to share job opportunities and assist our clients with their resumes, applications and interviews.
Once employed, we provide post-placement support to ensure our clients are happy and sustain their employment.
In support of finding employment, we facilitate training and certifications to ensure our clients have the appropriate skills, tickets and certificates to be employed in the job of their choice.
Some examples of the training we arrange includes Community Services certificate, Forklift training, licensing days, automotive and small engines certificates, and cooking and food safety.
2. Community Projects
Our Community Projects team are always on the go! From building community infrastructure to horticulture at the Katherine Research Station to creating and maintaining cultural sites.
Community projects is all about building skills and creating tangible outcomes, while repairing or enhancing the community.
We employ local supervisors and team members and have clients volunteer to join projects.
Aboriginal Health Coaches
In 2024, Nyirrunggulung-RISE was granted funding through NIAA’s Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP) to deliver a pioneering 4-year health program.
Spanning from the Lajamanu, 570km southwest of Katherine, to the Tiwi Islands, the Aboriginal Health Coaches program aims to empower Aboriginal people throughout the Big Rivers Region through healthcare education, tailored support and employment.
After 6-months of training on Country and in-clinic, participants will graduate with a nationally recognised Aboriginal Heath Coach certification and be ready for employment in any community healthcare or wellbeing setting.
Nyirrunggulung-RISE is delivering this program as part of a consortium of partners, including the Katherine West Health Board, Star College Australia, the Jawoyn Association and Carers NT.
Ngalmuka Munguy Wirland Yilk-Mak
Ngalmuka Munguy Wirland Yilk-Mak is a wellbeing program co-designed by the women of Barunga and Bounce Global.
The co-design process involved meetings with participants, staff, the local council, and traditional owners to develop a program that aligned with the community.
Our Barunga team now run weekly cultural wellbeing sessions for women down at Shorty Creek. These sessions are focused on yarning and themes such as being true to yourself, connecting with Culture and Country, and integrity – being your word.
The sessions have had a ripple effect with more engagement with health and social services, such as health checks, breast screening and domestic violence education.
