Casuarina Street Preschool Makeover

The Casuarina Street Preschool in Katharine had a makeover recently.

This project was a partnership with region 31 and ourselves at region 33 Nyirrunggulung RISE.

Stage 1 of the project was completed by Region 31, and they did an amazing job removing old tyres, over grown trees and scrubs. This stage also included several tip runs to get rid of the unwanted rubbish.

The rest of the work was completed by region 33. We did struggle to get time to complete this project with normal operations and IWIC still going. When Nyirrunggulung-RISE was temporary locked out of communities due to COVID restrictions, we thought it would be the ideal time to keep our staff busy finishing this project.

Bunnings Palmerston kindly donated items to add to this playground refurbishment, and we all worked together and hard over the next few days to get the job done.

Below is a list of what both teams achieved with the new and improved Casuarina Street Preschool playground:

  • Garden Beds
  • Leveling Ground
  • Putting in a Pathway
  • Stone edging
  • Planting new Trees and Shrubs
  • Mulching
  • Putting up play equipment
  • Bird Bath /Plant Pots / Play equipment
  • Laying Wood Chips and Sand
  • Sand Pit
  • Small tables
  • Painting

Region 31 and region 33 worked closely with Kirsty Bartlett Casuarina Street Preschool’s lead educator. The team also worked with the Parents Committee and implemented their plans for the space.

The playground will be opened after the school holidays, which we will be invited to as a thank you for all the teams hard work. It was a great outcome by everyone involved and we would like to show our appreciation for the amazing job everyone did.

It is a great place for the kids to play and enjoy.

Thanks to all the Nyirrunggulung-RISE Team, You did a amazing job!
