The Manyallaluk community asked our team of jobseekers to help with preparing a traditional funeral shelter for an upcoming service.
Due to conditions across the rainy season, community members are unable to be laid to rest. This means that at the start of the dry season, there are often many funerals in these remote communities.
Last week, our team were tasked with creating a traditional shade funeral shelter for a ceremony in the weekend. They went out to source and cut timber before building the shelter.
The community came together to help them and as it was school holidays, local children also joined in.
There was a lot to get done but the team showed excellent teamwork and initiative to have it prepared in time.
It’s a sad time for the Manyallaluk community and Nyirrunggulung-RISE are pleased that we can support them when they need us.
