Gaining In-Demand Skills and Keeping the Community Tip Top

It’s school holidays but there’s been no break for the Nyirrunggulung-RISE men’s teams. They’ve been hard at work learning new skills and improving their communities.

Read about some of the jobs they’ve been working on…

Gaining In-Demand Skills at the Katherine Research Station

The fellas have been learning in-demand skills at the Katherine Research Station… and having fun at the same time!

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been grafting trees and doing pre-harvest work on the mango trees.

Great work team – we’re looking forward to this year’s crop!

Keeping Barunga School Tip Top for Local Kids

While the kids have been on holiday, our Barunga Supervisor Nathan has been hard at work improving Barunga School.

Last week he loaded sand to place under the school Bower Shed where the kids can sit and take some time out.

This week, he and the team will mulch the school orchard and spray weeds along the fence line.

The fullas love to make a difference in their community and keep the school in top shape for the students!

Turning An Unused School Building Into A Community Hub

Another school holiday project the Barunga Team have been working on is a clear out and clean-up of an unused school building.

This building is located on the grounds of the Barunga School and, as you can see, it has been sitting as an old storage shed.

The goal of this renovation is to create a community hub and encourage locals to do art and other activities.

This could also be a space to run training courses to help people upskill and be job ready.

Great work fullas – we appreciate your work and commitment to your community. Stay tuned for our progress updates and the final reveal!
